The New Yamaha MT-15 with Dual Channel ABS, 6-Speed Gear Box, Fuel Injection System and more

Yamaha's MT-15 has been spotted for the first time in India sans camouflage in a matte blue shade. The colour is also present on its Indonesian-spec motorcycle. But it misses out on the fluoro-coloured wheels which have a different alloy spoke design as well. The alloy wheels in the India-spec bike are also taken from the R15 v3.0 and are very much unlike the Y-spoke design found abroad. Yamaha India will be launching the baby MT-15 on March 15 at the Buddh International Circuit.

Leaked Road Transport documents indicate that the upcoming India-spec MT-15 makes the same amount of power as the India-spec R15 v3.0. Test mules of the MT-15 have been spotted testing in India. It will be Yamaha’s first MT motorcycle to be built in India, as the other bike in the range, the MT-09, is a CBU product. The Yamaha MT-15 is basically the naked version of the popular Yamaha R15 v3.0. The new motorcycle is expected to be priced around Rs 1.2 lakh to 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete against the new KTM 125 Duke. The design of the bike’s bodywork is the same as the one sold in the international market. The seat is also the same, and the headlight silhouette indicates the bike gets the same LED unit as the Thai-spec bike. However, to keep the price competitive, Yamaha has chosen to go with telescopic forks up front and a box-section swingarm at the rear. The one in the Thailand market, on the other hand, gets inverted forks and an aluminium swingarm.

Expect the MT-15 to carry the R15 v3.0’s motor in the same state of tune. The single-cylinder engine with VVA generates 19.3PS at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm at 8500rpm. Transmission duty is handled by a 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch. When launched, the MT-15 will compete with the KTM 125 Duke.
